As the weather starts to get warmer, more people will be out walking, cycling and driving around the community. The City of Vaughan continues to keep road safety and the well-being of citizens top of mind, no matter the season – and you are encouraged to do the same.
Play an important role in urging your community to drive safely and obey speed limits on City roads through the City’s #SlowDownVaughan initiative.
There are many ways you can participate:
Place a #SlowDownVaughan sign on your lawn. Pick up a sign at Vaughan community centres (excluding Garnet A. Williams Community Centre while it remains closed temporarily for renovations) and the three Vaughan Public Libraries Resource Libraries – Bathurst Clark, Civic Centre and Pierre Berton. Signs are produced by the City and are free to Vaughan residents.

The #SlowDownVaughan initiative, which launched in November 2021. It was created to acknowledge those in Vaughan who have been impacted by dangerous driving. The campaign was officially endorsed by Council in the Committee of the Whole (2) meeting on Oct. 13, 2021 and approved at the Oct. 20, 2021 Council meeting (PDF).
The City has developed a MoveSmart Mobility Management Strategy, which sets the direction and priorities for the next five years while ensuring an efficient, reliable, safe and sustainable transportation system. MoveSmart was guided by input received from the public, which identified road safety and effective traffic management as top priorities to help meet the existing and evolving needs of the community. The strategy consists of four programs, one of them being the Road Safety Program, created to increase road safety and raise public awareness.
Also part of MoveSmart is the Speed Limit Policy, which was approved by Council on June 22, 2021 and implementation began in fall 2021. For more information about the policy, including the newly implemented speed reductions in school zone areas and public laneways, visit vaughan.ca/SpeedPolicy.
